About this dictionary

How entries are compiled

Every entry combines several structured data sources so that meanings and grammar stay consistent across the dictionary:

• Definitions and examples are drawn from the curated lexical dataset that powers the Alexandria learning app, organized into senses and sub-senses with translated example sentences.
• Pronunciation is shown in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) where available.
• Verb conjugations list the present tense, simple past (Präteritum), past participle (Partizip II), imperative forms, and the auxiliary used to form perfect tenses.
• Noun declensions show grammatical gender together with the nominative, accusative, dative, and genitive forms in the singular and plural.
• Adjective forms include the base (positive), comparative, and superlative.

Data sources & licensing

Definitions and example sentences are produced and curated by the Alexandria team. They are original to this dictionary and are not taken from Wiktionary.

Pronunciation (IPA), verb conjugations, adjective comparison forms, and noun declensions are adapted from German Wiktionary, reformatted into the tables shown on each entry. This Wiktionary-derived material is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license (CC BY-SA) — versions 3.0 and 4.0 — the same terms under which Wiktionary publishes it. We are grateful to Wiktionary's contributors for maintaining this data.
